Dharamsala: Tributes paid to Kargil martyrs

Dharamsala, July 26

Army personnel of the 9th Core led by Brig KPVS Samiyal, officials of the district administration led by DC Nipun Jindal and local MLA Vishal Nehria paid homage to the martyrs of the Kargil War here today.

In the Kargil War in 1999, 52 soldiers from Himachal had laid their lives while defending the territories of the country.

Of four Param Vir Chakras awarded for bravery during the war, two were given to the martyrs from Himachal. Of 52 martyrs from Himachal, 15 were from Kangra, 11 from Mandi, seven each from Hamirpur and Bilaspur, four from Shimla, two each from Solan, Sirmaur and Una and one each from Chamba and Kullu districts.
