A district-level awareness camp was organised at SFDA Hall, Nahan, under the Poshan Abhiyaan by the Department of Women and Child Development today.

Nahan MLA Ajay Solanki was the chief guest at the event. Around 300 Anganwadi workers participated in the camp. Addressing the Anganwadi workers, Solanki emphasised the need for proper nutrition for infants and pregnant women. Several programmes were being implemented by the Women and Child Development Department to address this, he said.

These programmes must be effectively executed to ensure their success, he added, stating that, through the Anganwadi centres, nutritious food was being provided to infants and pregnant women.

Special attention should be given to children and mothers who were malnourished, he said. Solanki called for collaborative efforts from all relevant departments to run campaigns against malnutrition and anaemia. He suggested conducting awareness campaigns at schools, Anganwadi centres, and at the panchayat level to disseminate accurate information about nutrition.

The goal was to ensure that more people were aware of, and benefitted from nutrition programmes, he added.

He pointed out that malnutrition and anaemia could be life-threatening for children and pregnant women, making it crucial for all stakeholders to work together to make these programmes successful.

Solanki urged departments to focus on the interests of orphaned and abandoned children and youth, underlining the importance of the Chief Minister’s Sukh Ashray Scheme. During the event, 15 girls were honoured with fixed deposits worth Rs 21,000 under the Beti Hai Anmol scheme.

Before the ceremony, District Programme Officer Sunil Sharma presented a shawl and a muffler to the chief guest, and briefed him about the various initiatives being run by the department. Sharma provided key statistics, stating that 73 beneficiaries had received a total of Rs 37.23 lakh under the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana for the marriage of daughters of widows.

Rs 51.15 lakh had been provided to 165 beneficiaries from BPL families under the Mukhyamantri Shagun Yojana, he added, stating that, under the Mother Teresa Asahaya Matri Sambal Yojana, Rs 25.56 lakh had been given to 466 mothers and 712 children for their upbringing.

Nine women had benefited from the widow remarriage scheme, with Rs 65,000 given to four women, and Rs 2 lakh to five other women.

Furthermore, eight women were provided Rs 40,000 under the Women Self-Employment Scheme to help them become self-reliant.

The programme featured a vibrant cultural event presented by Anganwadi workers.
