Driver killed as truck plunges into gorge in Shimla’s Chopal
32-year-old from J&K dies on the spot after vehicle loses control while dumping debris
A 32-year-old man was killed after a tipper truck (HP 63 D 1357) plunged into a deep gorge in Chopal tehsil of Shimla district.
The deceased has been identified as Vipin Kumar, a resident of Doda in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the police, the accident took place on Sunday evening on the Chila-Chanpadli link road near Hamlati Khad. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while dumping debris, causing the truck to plunge into the gorge. He died on the spot.
A police team reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and, with the assistance of local residents, recovered the body from the gorge. It was later taken to Civil Hospital, Chopal, for postmortem.
Shimla SSP Gaurav Singh confirmed the incident and said a case had been registered. Further investigation is underway.
