Palampur, September 18

Sanjay Kumar (20), a resident of Sungal village located 10 km from here, committed suicide yesterday after losing Rs 95,000 to a fraudster.

The police said that Sanjay received a phone call and the caller told him that he would be provided a new Maruti Alto car for Rs 95,000.

The fraudster told him that under a special scheme, the company was giving the car at a discounted price and it would be delivered at his home. Sanjay transferred Rs 95,000 to the bank account of the fraudster.

However, after a few days, the fraudster switched off his mobile phone. Sanjay tried frantically to locate the fraudster but in vain. Later, he committed suicide by taking poison.

His distraught father Prem Chand said that last week, Sanjay received a call that “they were on the way to Sungal to deliver his car”.

However, they never turned up. When his son came to know that he had been cheated he consume poison. Sanjay was his only son.

The police have registered a case and investigation is in progress. The accused has been identified from his mobile phone number.
