Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today reiterated that education and healthcare were the core focus areas of the present government and the reforms in these sectors would continue.

Chairing the MLAs Priority Meeting here today, the Chief Minister said that while the previous government prioritised opening of new institutions for political gains without providing adequate facilities, his government was modernising the healthcare sector by integrating advanced technology and addressing staff shortages. “These initiatives would yield positive outcomes in the near future,” he said.

The Chief Minister further said that the government was fostering industrial growth while preserving the natural beauty of the state by implementing progressive policy reforms. “The state is actively promoting tourism, dairy farming, IT and data storage, food processing and other environmentally sustainable industries,” he said.

The Chief Minister announced the allocation of funds for the Kurpan drinking water scheme and directed the Jal Shakti Department to complete the project by April 30. He also instructed the Agriculture and Forest Departments to explore the potential for bamboo-based industries in Gagret.

He also sought suggestions from the MLAs on how to cope with future challenges and make the state self-reliant. “The MLAs play a key role in regional development and have strong grassroots representation. Their proposals would be given priority in the state budget,” he said.

He further that the present state government was committed to making Himachal Pradesh a green energy state by March, 2026 and had made significant strides in this direction.

From the Mandi district, there was just one MLA, Chander Shekhar of the Congress, as all nine BJP MLA had boycotted the meeting. Chander Shekhar said that the absence of BJP MLAs from the meeting was unfortunate and was a setback for Mandi district. “The BJP was, in a way, deliberately neglecting the development proposals by remaining absent from the meeting,” he said.
