Elections in Hamirpur’s 242 gram panchayats from May 26

The District Election Office on Thursday released the schedule for the three-phase elections in 242 gram panchayats to be held for the 19 posts of Zila Parishad member, 119 ward members of six Panchayat Vikas Samitis (Block Development Councils) and the pradhans, up-pradhans and ward members of gram panchayats in the district. The voting would take place in 83 panchayats on May 26, 82 panchayats on May 28 and 77 panchayats on May 30

Gandharva Rathore, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, said that the nominations for various posts in these panchayati raj institutions (PRIs) could be filed before the officials concerned at the panchayats on May 7, 8 and 11 and the scrutiny of nomination papers would commence on May 12. She added that the candidates may withdraw their nominations on May 14 and 15 and election symbols would be allotted on the evening of May 15.

She said that voting would be conducted from 7 am to 3 pm. The election results for the panchayat pradhans, up-pradhans and ward members would be declared the same day while the counting of votes for the panchayat samitis and the zila parishad would begin at all block headquarters at 9 am on May 31.

Gandharva said that all arrangements for fair and peaceful elections had been made and urged people to participate in the elections with enthusiasm.
