Every vote strengthens democracy: CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Addressing Booth Level Officers (BLOs), BLO Supervisors and voters at Khajjiar in Chamba district, Kumar said the Election Commission’s extensive electoral machinery relies heavily on grassroots functionaries.

He noted that nearly 18 million people are associated with election-related work across the country, including around 1.2 million Booth Level Officers, who serve as the frontline representatives of the Election Commission.

Highlighting the importance of youth participation, the CEC said the involvement of young voters is essential for a vibrant and healthy democracy.

He urged citizens to actively participate in every election and called upon voters in Chamba district to strive for a voter turnout of more than 90 per cent in future elections.

During the interaction, Kumar reviewed various aspects of the electoral process with BLOs and voters from different Assembly constituencies, including voter enrolment, polling station management, voter turnout and election-related arrangements.

He also interacted with young and women voters to understand their experiences and perspectives regarding electoral participation.

The visit was part of the Election Commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen voter awareness and deepen engagement with election officials and citizens at the grassroots level.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mukesh Repaswal welcomed the CEC and presented him with a traditional Himachali shawl, cap and a Chamba Rumal as a mark of respect.
