Former Deputy Speaker of the HP Assembly Ram Nath Sharma died at a hospital in Chandigarh today. He was unwell for the past many days and was under treatment.
After serving in the Indian Navy for some years, Sharma came back home. He won the 1977 Assembly elections from Kutlehar on the Janata Party ticket. He later joined the Congress and remained the MLA from 1985 to 1990 in the Virbhadra Singh government. During this period, he was elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and was later appointed chairman of the State Forest Corporation.
Sharma’s mortal remains have been brought to his house in Barnoh village. The cremation will take place at 11 am tomorrow. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and two daughters. The younger son, Vivek Sharma, is the president of the Kutlehar Congress Committee. — OC
