Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi reviewed the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, revenue matters and disaster management measures at a meeting at the Bachat Bhawan here on Thursday.

The minister held detailed discussions with the officials concerned to accelerate the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, in the district. The officials told the minister that a district-level committee constituted under the Forest Rights Act had found 29 cases of Shillai subdivision eligible for consideration and approval.

Negi chaired another meeting on revenue matters and instructed the officials concerned to expedite the disposal of pending cases and resolve bottlenecks affecting timely settlements. He also took stock of practical challenges being faced by the field staff.

Negi reviewed the functioning, roles and responsibilities of the Sub-Divisional Level Committee and the Forest Rights Committees constituted under the Act. He directed the committees to work with renewed commitment to ensuring that eligible communities get benefits under the legislation.

The meeting was apprised that in Sirmaur district, 96 cases of partition, 447 of demarcation, 123 related to the correction of revenue entries, 20 related to encroachments and 11 of mutation had been settled so far. Under the Special Revenue Lok Adalat organised in the district, 946 cases had been disposed of till date. In January alone, 252 mutation cases were settled, taking the total number of such cases disposed of in Lok Adalats to 694. Besides, 57 partition cases and 96 cases related to the correction of revenue entries were resolved in special lok adalats.

Officials said that as part of the Special Relief Package, 1,522 eligible families affected by the disaster in 2023 were provided assistance. Financial assistance amounting to over Rs 11 crore was disbursed to the beneficiaries for 66 fully damaged houses, 853 partially damaged, 292 cowsheds, 262 cases of crop loss and two damaged shops.

As part of the 2025 Special Disaster Relief Package, a financial assistance of more than Rs 4.41 crore had been provided to 511 affected individuals in the district.
