Shimla, February 17

Four students of Government Senior Secondary School, Matyana (Shimla), around 50 km from here, sustained injuries following an explosion caused by wrong mixing of chemicals. The incident took place while students were doing experiments in the school chemistry lab.

The injured students were immediately rushed to the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital, Shimla. Two sustained major injuries in their eyes and on faces.

Meanwhile, 480 fruit plants were damaged in a fire in Chilla village at Deha in Theog subdivision of Shimla district late last night. The fire engulfed orchards of six farmers and 150 plants of Surendra, 100 plants each of Mathu Ram and Lachhi Ram, 50 plants of Prakash and 30 plants of Sahil were destroyed in the fire.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot from Theog. The police had registered a case and an investigation was underway, DSP, Theog, said. Preliminary probe suggested that it could be a mischief due to local rivalry, he added. — TNS
