‘Food street’ to be established on govt college land in Dharamsala
The Dharamsala Municipal Corporation has planned to set up a ‘food street’ in the city.
The project would be set up on Dharamsala Government College land, near the police ground. According to sources, the government has initiated the process of transferring the college land to the MC for the ‘food street’. The general perception of a ‘food street’ is that of a place for street vendors. However, the MC is planning to build this project as a shopping complex, where it intends to bring in leading food brands.
MC Commissioner Zaffar Iqbal said the transfer of land to the local body was nearing its completion. The idea behind the project was to create a facility for tourists to relish delicacies, he added, stating that the food street would have adequate parking space. The proposal for the ‘food street’ on government college land is likely to evoke criticism. The government’s proposal to set up a tourism village on HPAU, Palampur, land has been opposed by residents of Palampur and several leaders, including some Congress leaders from Kangra.
The previous BJP-led government had allotted a portion of the Dharamsala Government College land for the international cricket stadium here.
