A 2012-batch IPS officer and former Shimla SSP, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, has been asked to report to the Department of Personnel after he failed to assume charge as Managing Director of the State Milk Federation (MILKFED), nearly two weeks after his transfer order. The directive was issued late last night through a notification by Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta.

Earlier this month, on February 12, Gandhi, recently promoted to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank, was posted as Managing Director of MILKFED in a non-police assignment. However, despite formal orders, he did not join the new position to take official charge.

Sources indicate that Gandhi, who is regarded as being close to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, was reportedly seeking a more significant posting and therefore chose not to take up the assignment.

In the meantime, the state government has entrusted the additional charge of Managing Director, MILKFED, to 2018-batch IAS officer Abhishek Verma, currently serving as Director, Land Records.
