Four injured as house catches fire in Shimla’s Kotkhai
About 60 per cent of the house has been completely damaged besides an estimated loss of Rs 30 lakh to 40 lakh
Four persons sustained burn injuries during a fire incident which broke out in a two-story building in Kyari village in the Kotkhai subdivision under the Shimla district.
As per the officials, the fire broke out today around 6:00 am in a house owned by Sushil Kumar, former Panchayat Head, and quickly spread throughout the house.
At that time only two members of the family were present in the house, who immediately rushed out.
They informed the fire department, following which a fire tender from Kotkhai was dispatched.
The fire department was able to put out the fire with the assistance of locals. However, four persons received burn injuries while they tried to put out the fire.
They were rushed to Civil Hospital, Kotkhai from where they were discharged after being provided with first aid.
Abhishek Barwal, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kotkhai, said that the fire has resulted in an estimated loss of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh and the exact cause of the fire outbreak is being ascertained.
The SDM said that about 60 percent of the house has been completely damaged as a result of the fire. “Around four to five people of the same family were living there, however, only two were present at the time of the fire incident. As the house had about 20 rooms, affected family members have decided to stay there. As an interim relief, district administration has provided Rs 10,000 to the affected family” he said.
