A mother-son duo and two others were killed, while one sustained injuries, after a car (HP 26 B 8999) they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Nichar subdivision, Kinnaur district, today.
The deceased have been identified as Himesh Kumar (19), his mother Krishna (42), Sushma (47) and Inder Lal (30), while the injured has been identified as Vidya Krishan (32), all residents of Jani village in Kinnaur.
According to the police, the accident took place today on the Tapri-Jani link road, when they were on their way to Jani from Tapri. The accident occurred after the driver lost control over the car. As a result, the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge, killing four on the spot, while leaving one person with serious injuries.
A police team reached the spot and rescued the injured and also recovered the dead bodies, with the assistance of locals.
The injured was rushed to Jindal Sanjeevni Hospital, Tapri, from where he has been referred to Mahatma Gandhi Medical Service Complex, Khaneri, in Rampur for further treatment. Post-mortem examination of the deceased is also being conducted there.
Kinnaur Superintendent of Police (SP) Sushil Kumar said a case had been registered and further investigation was going on.
Nichar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Narain Singh Chauhan said a relief of Rs 25,000 each has been provided to the family of the deceased, while Rs 10,000 have been granted to the injured.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed deep sorrow over the car accident and directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the next of kin of the deceased and best treatment to the injured.
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has expressed grief over the incident and has directed the administration to ensure all possible assistance to the families of the deceased.
