Four-year memorial rituals of Sukh Ram performed in Mandi

The four-year memorial rituals (Chaturvarshik Shraddh) of former Union Minister late Pandit Sukh Ram were performed on the outskirts of Mandi town on Monday. Traditional religious ceremonies and a Brahm Bhoj were organised on the occasion that were attended by several political leaders from across party lines.

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and former Himachal Pradesh Congress president Pratibha Singh along with senior leaders of both Congress and BJP from Mandi district were present. All dignitaries offered floral tributes on the portrait of the late leader.

Pandit Sukh Ram, who passed away on May 11, 2022, was remembered as a prominent political figure — he had served as a Union Telecom Minister. He had founded his own political outfit, Himachal Vikas Congress, leaving a distinct mark on the state’s political landscape. The leaders recalled his contribution to the development of Himachal Pradesh and said that he had worked with a broad and inclusive vision for the state’s progress.

Sukh Ram’s son Anil Sharma, who is Mandi (Sadar) MLA, said that people still remembered and respected his developmental work and leadership. Jai Ram and Pratibha highlighted Pandit Sukh Ram’s significant role in bringing about a communication revolution in India. They said that his contributions to the telecom sector would always be remembered.

The ceremony concluded with prayers and a community feast and the attendees paid homage to the late leader’s legacy of public service and development-oriented politics.
