Shimla, September 20

The Shimla Nagrika Sabha on Thursday staged a protest in front of the Mayor’s office and gheraoed Mayor Kusum Sadret blaming her for the “garbage mess in the city”.

Protesters raised anti-Mayor and anti-BJP government slogans, demanding that the Shimla Municipal Corporation should take back the work of collection of garbage of five wards from private contractors and it be given to the SEHB Society. Vijender Mehra, president, Nagrik Sabha, alleged the BJP-ruled MC was giving free hand to private contractors in five wards of Totu, Majath, Boileauganj, Kachhighati and Tuttikandi. Many workers hired by a private contractor at Totu had left work as the contractor did not pay them their salary, he claimed.

The protesters said the MC was not lifting garbage from many wards of the city even after three days.
