Shimla, April 28
The 80-km Theog-Hatkoti road in upper Shimla region, considered to be a lifeline of apple growers, has been declared the National Highway and the Union Ministry of Surface Transport has issued a notification in this regard.
The demand for declaring the road as NH was made during the visit of Union Health Minister JP Nadda to Shimla last week and within a week the road was declared as the NH.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had assured that the road would be completed before June 2016 and all possible measures would be taken to ensure that the marketing of apples was not affected. The government had also raised the demand for declaring the road as NH. The BJP on the other hand is also trying hard to take the credit for it.
The road had been a major election issue in 2007 Assembly and 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
Bragta thanked the Prime Minister, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and JP Nadda and other top leaders for declaring the road as NH.
