Addressing the graduating students in the historic town of Mandi, popularly known as “Choti Kashi”, the Governor said the convocation was not merely a degree distribution ceremony but a celebration of knowledge, culture and responsibility.

Referring to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, after whom the university is named, Gupta said the ideals of national unity and integrity championed by the “Iron Man of India” remain equally relevant today. He appreciated the university for installing Patel’s statue on the campus, describing it as a symbol of national vision and respect for the country’s heritage. The Governor urged students to remain committed to the vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” and said the youth must actively participate in nation-building initiatives such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Digital India and Viksit Bharat-2047.

Praising the university for its rapid progress since its establishment, Gupta lauded the phased implementation of the National Education Policy, the formation of the Bharatiya Gyan Parampara cell, the holding of its first convocation in traditional Indian attire and the constitution of academic committees. He also appreciated the university’s academic and cultural programmes commemorating Mandi’s 500-year history, saying they reflected respect for local heritage and culture. Emphasising the role of youth in contemporary India, the Governor said knowledge alone was insufficient in today’s world and must be complemented by innovation, ethics and compassion. He urged students to work for the upliftment of weaker sections, stay away from drugs, protect the environment and preserve India’s cultural heritage.

Explaining the meaning of “Dikshant”, he said education never truly ends and learning continues throughout life.
