At the inauguration of the 51st Himachal Pradesh Police Sports and Duty Meet at Police Ground in Dharamsala today, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya called upon police personnel to help make society drug-free.
He said the increasing drug addiction was a threat to the younger generation and steps should be taken to curb it. The Governor lauded the Police Department, asking it to take effective steps to curb the menace.
“Police personnel are working hard to maintain law and order and such events not only provide them an opportunity for recreation, but also a platform to exhibit their talent. Sports not only makes a person physically fit, but also helps in inculcating spirit of competition, practice, self-confidence and team spirit,” he said.
As many as 500 athletes from three zones, including Northern, Central and Southern, and one central unit are participating in the three-day event. It is for the first time that policewomen are also participating in the sports meet.
Earlier, Shyam Bhagat Negi, ADGP, Law and Order, welcomed the Governor and gave details about various events to be organised during the three-day police meet.
Organising secretary Santosh Patial, DIG, Northern Range, proposed the vote of thanks. A cultural programme and a skit on drugs were also performed. Karma Yashi, Tibetan Finance Minister, Sanjeev Bhatnagar, Divisional Commissioner, Kangra, Rakesh Kumar Prajapati, Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, Rakesh Prajapati, Vimukt Ranjan, SP, Kangra, and senior officials of the Police Department were also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister will preside over the closing ceremony of the police meet.
