Hamirpur: Govt shielding mining mafia, alleges Vice-Chairman of Zila Parishad

Hamirpur, April 19

The government machinery is shielding the mining mafia and has failed to check unscientific mining in river beds.

This was alleged by Naresh Kumar, Vice-Chairman of Zila Parishad here today. He said he had made the repeated complaints to the district administration and mining officers but they had turned a deaf ear to his complaints. He alleged the connivance of ministers and MLAs with illegal mining. If the mining officers did not act fast, he would be forced to move the the high court and file a public interest litigation plea soon.

Naresh said the repeated renewal of mining leases had incurred a huge loss to the state exchequer. He said at auction, the mining blocks generate six-time higher revenue while the renewal was done at merely 10 to 20 per cent hike. There was a better mining policy but officers were not following it and giving undue benefit to the mafia.
