Hailstorm in upper Shimla areas

Theog and surrounding areas in upper Shimla were lashed by a hailstorm, while the middle and lower hills received intermittent rain accompanied by strong winds.

Apple crop was damaged in the higher areas, leaving farmers worried. Karsog, Palampur and Gaggal received 33 mm, 31 mm and 29 mm rain, while Aghar and Dharamsala recorded 27 mm and 23 mm rain, followed by Nagrota Suriyan 16 mm, Seobagh 15 mm, Jubbar Hatti 14 mm, Shimla 12 mm, Baijnath 9 mm and Mashobra 5 mm.

Shimla was lashed by heavy rain this afternoon, forcing tourists and locals to stay indoors. The sky remained overcast and fog engulfed the region, affecting normal life. The rain caused a marginal fall in the night temperature. Keylong and Kalpa in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur recorded a low of 9.7 degrees C and 9.8 degrees C, followed by Manali 10.8 degrees C, Kufri 11.5 degrees C, Palampur 14 degrees C and Shimla 14.5 degrees C. The Met office has predicted rain and thundershowers for six days (from September 22 to September 27) in the middle and lower hills; and rain and thundershowers in the higher hills on all days barring September 23 and 24. There was no significant change in the day temperature. Una was the hottest at 33.5 degrees C, while Manali recorded 22.8 degrees C.
