Hamirpur technical university approves Rs 76.07-crore budget
Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU), Hamirpur, has approved an ambitious and forward-looking annual budget of Rs 76.07 crore for the 2026–27 financial year, setting a new direction in the fields of technical education, research and innovation. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said the university’s goal was not limited to providing traditional education, but also included encouraging students to actively participate in innovation, research and various co-curricular activities.
He added that the budget would play a significant role in promoting both academic empowerment and the holistic development of students.
Sukhu said special focus would be given to entrepreneurship development programmes, industrial exposure, and training, enabling students to gain practical knowledge and become self-reliant.
HPTU has earmarked Rs 3 crore for developing modern laboratories, equipment, and technical infrastructure, while Rs 1 crore has been allocated for books, e-books and research journals. Rs 2 crore has been allocated for entrepreneurship development programmes, and Rs 1 crore for industrial exposure and training. Additionally, Rs 70 lakh has been allocated for student activities and skill development.
The budget was passed after detailed deliberations in a university finance committee meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor and Technical Education Secretary Abhishek Jain. The budget was also approved by the University’s Board of Directors. Jain said the budget reflected a progressive vision that balanced education, research, skill development and entrepreneurship, and would significantly enhance the technical education landscape of the state.
