The High Court on Thursday issued notice to the state on a petition seeking probe from an independent agency like the CBI into the alleged murder of social activist from Sirmaur Kedar Singh Jindan.

A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Ajay Mohan Goel passed this order on a petition filed by the High Court Bar Association praying that the investigation in the case might be handed over to an independent agency or a high-level investigation team of the police other than Sirmaur district.

Issuing notice, the court further directed the Principal Secretary (Home), the DGP and SP, Sirmaur, to file their response within two weeks.

Contending on behalf of the Bar Association, its counsel Rajnish Maniktala argued before the court that deceased Jindan had been a member of the High Court Bar Association.

He had been taking up matters pertaining to various social evils, prevailing in society, especially in Sirmaur, and also raising voice against the violation of human rights.

Maniktala further contended that on September 7, the deceased had gone to a government office at Bakras in Shillai, Sirmaur, during the office hours.

He was beaten up by three persons in the office as a result he died. Thereafter, his body was dragged out of the office and one of the accused crushed it by a Scorpio.

It was further alleged in the petition that the police were immediately informed about the incident but it took more than 3 hours by the police to reach the spot.

The Bar Association also urged the court to direct the state authorities to provide job to a family member of the deceased and free education to his children.
