Shimla, May 28

Taking a tough stand on encroachments on the forestland in Triund near Dharamsala, the High Court on Tuesday directed the Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, to inspect the area and file a status report.

Passing the order, a Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary and Justice Vivek Singh Thakur directed the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate steps for removing the forest encroachments.

The High Court passed the order on a petition filed by Naresh Kumar, alleging that some people had constructed guest houses and shops illegally on forestland.

After hearing the matter, the High Court directed the local authorities to take strict action against the violators and file the report by June 24.
