Himachal Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Pathania said on Sunday that the budget session of the Assembly, commencing tomorrow, will have three sittings. Still, the possibility of an extension cannot be ruled out, depending on the legislative business.

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Pathania said 125 questions had been received from the legislators, which include 111 starred and 14 unstarred.

“Since the notification of the assembly was issued only recently, it is not certain how much business will come and if the assembly sittings will be extended or it will be adjourned to be resumed later,” he said.

Stating that most of the legislative business during the assembly session comes from the state government, he said the possibility of increasing the sittings cannot be ruled out.

“There is a provision in the house rules that the assembly can be adjourned and resumed later. The state government will also need time to prepare the budget for the financial year 2026-27,” he said.

Pathania said, besides the questions, one notice has been received under Rule 62 for calling attention, and one notice from the government under Rule 102, which is basically an adjournment motion.

Replying to a query, he said that the majority of the complaints before the Privileges Committee of the Vidhan Sabha had been disposed of.

“There are a few like the one filed by Ayurveda Minister Yadvinder Goma against Deputy Commissioner, Mandi. We have sought a reply from the Chief Secretary, and if we find it to be legally sustainable, then we will refer it to the Privileges Committee,” he said. He said the Minister had alleged breach of privilege, and it is only after receiving the reply from DC Mandi that we can look into its merits.

He also said another complaint filed against former Superintendent of Police, Baddi, was also pending, in which a reply had been sought from the Home department, as the concerned IPS officer had moved out of the state on a central deputation. The complaint was filed by Doon MLA Ram Kumar against the then SP, Baddi Ilma Afroz.
