Himachal has put off the winter session of the assembly that was scheduled to begin next week, official sources said on Tuesday.

The Himachal Assembly was scheduled to meet for a five-day winter session at Dharamsala from December 7.  The state cabinet that met on Tuesday decided to put it off indefinitely, with no new date scheduled for the session yet.

The decision comes at a time when the rising number of coronavirus cases in the state has caused concern among authorities.

The cabinet felt there was no urgency to hold a winter session, sources said.

As a rule, there cannot be more than a six-month gap between two sessions of the assembly. The cabinet has until March 18 to hold the winter session.
