Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today garlanded the portrait of first Deputy Prime Minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at The Ridge on his 145th birth anniversary, celebrated as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’. He also paid floral tributes to a statue of former PM Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary.
He said it was due to the determination, dedication, diplomacy and iron willpower of Sardar Patel that India stood united today. Patel integrated the farmers’ cause in Kheda and Bardoli with the national freedom movement. The CM also remembered Indira Gandhi’s contributions.
Thakur urged the people of the state on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti to follow his teachings.
Meanwhile, presiding over a function organised by the police to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel here today, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya said one needs to be careful of anti-social elements as they tried to hurt the integrity of the country by resorting to terrorism, casteism, regionalism and religion.
