Himachal Govt assures seniority protection to boost shift to CBSE schools

Facing a lukewarm response from government school teachers for deputation to CBSE-affiliated institutions, the Himachal Pradesh Government on Monday issued a formal clarification assuring that seniority, promotions and other service benefits would remain fully protected.Secretary (Education) Rakesh Kanwar released a notification to address apprehensions among teachers hesitant to apply. So far, only 1,500 applications have been received against 5,700 posts proposed to be filled in 130 government schools across the state that are set to transition to the CBSE curriculum.According to the notification, existing teachers selected through a screening test will be required to opt for the CBSE Teacher Sub-Cadre before joining. However, they will retain lien in their parent cadres. The order categorically states that their seniority, promotion prospects and all other service-related benefits in the parent cadre will remain unaffected in any manner.The clarification further provides that teachers posted in CBSE schools will be eligible for transfer back to non-CBSE schools upon promotion, subject to availability of vacancies.The latest directive partially modifies the earlier notification issued on January 19, 2026, regarding the Scheme for Affiliated Schools of Excellence in Himachal Pradesh.The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education will conduct the Screening Test on March 22, with February 24 as the last date for submission of applications. The government’s move is aimed at dispelling doubts and encouraging greater participation.
