“Higher enrolment, rationalisation of teachers and better utilisation of resources is the idea behind the merger of these schools,” said Ashish Kohli, Director of School Education.

Now, only 40 senior secondary schools are left as exclusively boys’ or girls’ schools. The government plans to convert these, too, into co-educational institutions.

Upon merger, the principal of the lead school (designated for CBSE-affiliated schools) will function as the head of the resultant co-educational institution.  The teaching and non-teaching staff of the merged schools will be under the administrative control of the principal of the resultant co-educational schools.
