Himachal Police raid hideouts of 236 drug traffickers across state

The Himachal Pradesh Police on Wednesday conducted raids at suspected premises, residences and hideouts of 236 alleged drug traffickers across the state, and seized a large quantity of narcotics.During a state-wide operation held under the Phase-II of the ‘Chitta-Free Himachal’ campaign, the police seized approximately 12.59 grams of chitta (heroin), 13.8 kilograms of poppy husk, 70 grams of opium, 14.25 litres of illicit liquor and Rs 2,31,690 in cash from across the state.

The raids were conducted by the teams of the respective district police and the Special Task Force (STF). The police also registered five cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and two cases under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act.

Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tewari said the special state-level operation was carefully planned and executed on the basis of intelligence inputs, technical analysis and inter-district coordination. He said that the primary objective of the operation was to identify and dismantle active drug trafficking networks, disrupt narcotics supply chains and ensure strict legal action against individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.

The DGP stated that the ongoing campaign was not limited to law enforcement action, but also aims to increase awareness about the ill effects of drugs and strengthen community participation in protecting youth from the drug menace.
