Himachal Pradesh among world's most welcoming regions
The state has achieved this feat for the third consecutive year
Even as Himachal Pradesh is struggling to strengthen its infrastructure, it has made it to the list of 10 globally welcoming regions of 2026 and the only one in India.
Himachal has been placed at number five on the list of 10 most welcoming regions worldwide. The state offers a mix of everything from adventure, culture, spirituality and ancient monasteries and shrines. Its popular hill city of Shimla, the erstwhile summer capital of the British, Manali, Mc Leodganj — the abode of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, Kasauli and Dalhousie, which still retain their old world charm, attract tourists from across the world.
Hidalgo (Mexico), Newfoundland and Labrador (Canada), Navarra (Spain), Idaho (United States) are listed above Himachal Pradesh, as per the Traveller Review Awards released by Booking.com. Himachal has achieved this feat for the third consecutive year.
Those keen for a peek into the ancient Buddhist monasteries and rich Buddhist culture head towards Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti having rugged mountain terrains. The state government, on its part, has tried to develop tourism circuits to offer adventure tourism in the form of aero sports, water and winter sports.
A total of 1.81 crore tourists had visited Himachal in 2024, an increase of over 13.42 per cent. The tourist arrivals in Himachal have been on the rise barring during the Covid pandemic when travel came to standstill. Apart from the peak tourist season from April to June, a large number of people are attracted to Himachal during the winter season as well, especially in the hope of witnessing snowfall.
