Himachal Pradesh to witness heavy snow and rain from today; orange and yellow alert issued

Himachal Pradesh is set to witness heavy snowfall, hailstorm and rain from April 16 onwards as the State’s Meteorological Centre has issued orange and yellow weather warnings for four districts each for April 16.

As per the centre, orange warning has been issued for Kullu, Kangra, Mandi and Chamba districts, resulting in heavy hailstorm accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Shimla, Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur, resulting in heavy thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds.

The department has forecasted snowfall in higher hills and rain in the state till April 19 for which yellow warning has also been issued.

The weather is expected to remain dry across the state from April 20 onwards. While minimum temperatures across the state are set to rise by 2°C to 3°C in the next few days, maximum temperatures are expected to dip by 3°C to 5°C in the next few days.

Meanwhile, the weather was mostly dry across the state during the last 24 hours and minimum and maximum temperatures across the state were normal.

Minimum temperature in Shimla was 13.4°C, Dharamshala 11.6°C, Manali 11.9°C, Kangra 14.7°C, Mandi 13.6°C, Solan 11°C, Bilaspur 15°C, Tabo 3°C, Sundernagar 12.2°C, Nahan 15.7°C, Bhuntar 10.5°C, Kalpa 4.6°C and Paonta Sahib 18°C.

With 34.5°C maximum temperature, Una was the hottest place in the state while Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest as it recorded 1.3°C minimum temperature.
