Himachal tax collection rises despite slowdown

SHIMLA:Amid slowdown, Himachal Pradesh has recorded an increase of 17.2 per cent in overall tax revenue collection till November 30.

According to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Shimla and Baddi revenue districts have performed best, registering an increase of Rs 85 crore and Rs 111 crore, respectively.

Amid slowdown, Himachal Pradesh has recorded an increase of 17.2 per cent in overall tax revenue collection till November 30. Against a collection of Rs 2,727 crore in the corresponding period last year, the collection this time stands at Rs 3,198 crore, showing an increase of Rs 471 crore. 

According to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Shimla and Baddi revenue districts have performed best, registering an increase of Rs 85 crore and Rs 111 crore, respectively. Excise revenue till November 30 has shown an increase of 11 per cent vis-a-vis the corresponding period  last financial year, witnessing an increase of Rs 104 crore — from Rs 956 crore to Rs 1060 crore.

Similarly, GST revenue till November 30 has recorded a rise of 24 per cent as compared to last year — from Rs 1,859.07 crore last year to Rs 2,315.63 crore this year.

“The results for the month of November have been encouraging, with overall revenue collection up by 40 per cent, GST by 33 per cent and excise by 13 per cent. We have asked the Union Territory of Chandigarh to rationalise taxes and levies on liquor so that the same are not prejudicial to Himachal Pradesh,” the CM said.

“Also, the state government is ensuring effective enforcement of GST in tourism, construction and hydro-electric projects besides taking steps to realise arrears from defaulters,” he added.
