Shimla, April 7

In a major relief to students of the schools affiliated to Himachal Board of School Education, who have appeared in the examination, Himachal government on Tuesday decided to promote all the students from Class I to IX and class XI without declaration of results.

The decision was taken today after consultation between Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, education minister Suresh Bhardwaj and senior officers of education department and it was pointed that the evaluation of answer sheets could not be completed due to lockdown in the wake of Covid 19 outbreak.

Students of summer closing schools which accounts for 65 per cent of the total schools in the state where results were scheduled to be declared by March 31 last would be promoted to next class without declaration of results, said Director Higher Education Amarjeet Sharma.

The results of winter closing schools have already been declared and the students are already promoted to the next class. The state government had reversed the policy of no detention till class IX and restored board examination for class V and VII, but now, students of these classes would also stand promoted.

When regular classes would resume, a merit list of class XI students would be prepared at district and state level, but nobody would be detained.

Meanwhile, the e-content for learning at home for elementary students would be launched in the coming week while the content for secondary and senior secondary students would be launched after April 16, said Sharma, adding that the first priority is to ensure that study material reaches the students.

After commencement of online learning system, feedback would be taken regarding availability of smart phones and other equipment from the students following which interactive sessions would be started between students and teachers through apps.

Content packages will be sent to teachers by district and block officials of the education department on a daily basis following which the teachers will share this daily content package with the parents of their students via WhatsApp groups.

These videos will engage students through fun and interactive activities or stories. The students will be able to practice the same concept taught in the video through exercises and seek correct answers/ clarifications from their teachers over WhatsApp.

A content plan of informative video courses on innovative teaching methodologies on literacy and numeracy as well as pedagogy on TheTeacherApp will also be created for teachers. These videos will help teachers to continue learning and developing their professional skills further during this period.

The state government had already decided to launch eight week “samay Das se barah, har Ghar bane Patshala” programme to ensure continue learning of students while staying at home and everyday digital educational content created by the teachers will be sent to students.
