The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has said it has met several key targets under the National Education Policy-2020, rolling out wide-ranging reforms in assessment and evaluation.

Chief among these is the introduction of competency-based question papers for Classes X to XII, aimed at strengthening conceptual understanding and analytical thinking. A corresponding question bank for Classes IX to XII has also been developed, giving students a broader pool of practice material.

The Board has additionally rolled out the Holistic Progress Card for the secondary stage — Classes IX to XII — shifting the focus of assessment from marks alone to the overall development of the student. A credit framework has been adopted alongside, making academic achievements more flexible and standardised.

To monitor school quality, the State School Standards Authority framework has been put in place as a mechanism for maintaining educational standards across the state.

In a student-friendly measure, a dual examination system has been introduced for Class X, allowing students two attempts within the same academic year to reduce exam-related stress.

“HPBOSE has made significant strides in aligning the state’s education system with the vision of NEP 2020. Our focus remains on creating a transparent, student-centric and competency-driven learning environment,” said Board Chairman Dr Rajesh Sharma.

He added that the Board is working towards implementing the three-language formula to build multilingual proficiency and prepare students for national and global opportunities. Dr Sharma also announced that the second phase of spot evaluation for Class X and XII examinations will begin on April 16. He said maintaining the credibility of the examination system remains the Board’s top priority and that all processes have been streamlined accordingly.

He urged officials, staff and teachers to carry out their duties with honesty, integrity and confidentiality, adding that the evaluation is being conducted under an advanced surveillance system to ensure continuous monitoring and leave no room for irregularities.
