HPU to hold alumni conference



Himachal Pradesh University will organise an Alumni Association Conference on July 23. Vice-Chancellor SP Bansal, while presiding over a meeting in this connection, said BJP national president JP Nadda, who is an alumnus of the university, will be the chief guest on the occasion. He said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur and Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj will also be a part of the conference. The VC handed over a cheque for Rs 31,000 to Prof PK Ahluwalia, president of the Alumni Association of the university, as his contribution towards the association. He also appealed to all members to contribute generously towards the association to increase its academic activities.

Prof Sindhu is Dean, Faculty of Laws

Professor Sanjay Sindhu has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Laws, and chairman of the Department of Laws, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. Prof Sindhu was a professor of laws at the department in the university and is currently the Director, University Institute of Legal Studies, Ava Lodge campus, Chaura Maidan. He has an experience of more than 22 years in teaching and research.

Admission opens from July 10

Admission to the newly opened college in Kupvi will start from July 10. Initially, courses in the field of arts and commerce will be offered in the college. Elated over the opening of a college in their area, the locals thanked the Chief Minister for the initiative and said the institution would go a long way in helping the local students attain higher education.

Guv visits Shimla book fair

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Friday visited Shimla Book Fair organised at Gaiety Theatre and Ridge Maidan. Interacting with school students, the Governor said books enhanced one's knowledge and were true friends, guides and philosophers. The Governor added that today's was losing touch with the art of reading books for pleasure and was only reading bookd related to their syllabus. He stressed that the habit of reading needed to be inculcated in school students.
