Hundreds participate in anti-drug Heritage Cycling Ride in Shimla

Hundreds of cyclists came together for the Heritage Cycling Ride, organised under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Shapath on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, here today. The event, flagged off by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, saw enthusiastic participation from school and college students, cycling enthusiasts, families and residents from across Shimla.

Riding through the heritage precincts of the city, participants delivered a powerful message against drug abuse while promoting fitness, healthy living and an active lifestyle.

Addressing the participants, Mohit Sood, secretary, Cycling Association Himachal Pradesh, said they were trying to build a cycling culture in Shimla through such initiatives. He said cycling in general would inspire the youth to channelise their energy towards sports, fitness and outdoor activities instead of drugs.

“Every young person who chooses a bicycle over addiction takes a step towards making Himachal healthier and stronger,” he said.

The event concluded with the distribution of participation medals, certificates, T-shirts, refreshments and lunch among riders.
