On the community outreach front, IMA Dharamsala has launched a free Sunday outpatient department (OPD) service at IMA Bhavan. The initiative is designed to provide medical consultations to underprivileged patients who are unable to access healthcare services on weekdays.

Dr Gupta said the IMA was committed to a patients-first approach.

The OPD, which will run every Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm, is being managed by volunteer doctors from various specialisations. On the inaugural day, a team of specialists examined 45 patients and offered free consultations, diagnostic advice and treatment plans. Patients needing help can contact the IMA helpline at 94186-05887.

Beyond clinical duties, the aim is to develop IMA Bhavan as a centre for social service and support for the medical fraternity, Dr Gupta said.

He said the initiative would specifically cater to economically weaker sections and improve access to specialist healthcare services in the region.

As part of its agenda, the association is also focusing on bridging the gap between advanced medical learning and grassroots healthcare services. In this direction, IMA Dharamsala organised a high-level academic session on the management of coronary artery disease on Saturday evening.

The session, led by leading cardiologist Dr Nipun Mahajan from Jalandhar, focused on current practices in treating coronary artery disease and was attended by around 70 members.

IMA Dharamsala president and paediatric endocrinologist at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, Dr Atul Gupta said such continuing medical education (CME) programmes would now be held regularly to keep local doctors updated on the latest developments in medical science.

In addition to patient care, Dr Gupta said the IMA was also planning wellness and recreational activities for doctors to address professional stress and promote better coordination within the medical community.

He said the IMA would continue to expand both its academic and community service initiatives in the coming months.
