The Himachal Pradesh Apple Growers’ Association here today demanded that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government hike the import duty on apples by 100 per cent.

The meeting of the growers association was held here today under the chairmanship of state president Sohan Thakur, during which several demands of the orchardists were raised.

The association decided to demand that the payment for the purchase of apples under the Market Intervention Scheme be made to the orchardists as soon as possible, orchardists be immediately granted subsidy on power sprayer, anti-hailnet, grass cutter, power tiller and other equipment for the last five years, and loans be waived off. Additionally, the growers demanded that fertilizers, fungicides and insecticides be provided at cheaper rates.
