Shimla, July 10

There has been a rise in sexual offences involving immediate family members in Himachal Pradesh. The number of rape cases has risen by 7.17 per cent, kidnapping/abduction by 9.68 per cent and molestation by 4.67 per cent, as per the police data (compound annual growth rate in 10 years).

A man in Una has been booked for raping his daughter, a father in Kangra for sexually exploiting his daughter and a resident of Shimla district for raping his granddaughter. In Mandi, a rape accused on bail has been booked for threatening the victim. All these cases were reported in the past one week. Also, there have been cases of fake Facebook accounts being made and vulgar pictures of young girls uploaded. The police have begun crime-mapping to curb all such crime. DGP Sanjay Kundu, in a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary, Social Justice, has stressed the “urgent need” to launch an awareness campaign against such crime.
