Around 70 agenda items related to roads, drinking water, bus services, land transfer for Rajiv Gandhi day-boarding schools, electricity, health services and national highways were discussed at a meeting of the District-Level Grievance Redressal Committee under the chairmanship of MLA Sunder Singh Thakur at Dev Sadan in Kullu on Friday. Besides, the meeting also reviewed the previously pending matters.
The MLA said that the meeting of the district-level grievance redressal committee was convened after a long gap. Detailed discussions were held on 70 items, which also included the resolution of old pending cases. He added that all members had submitted their item-wise grievances beforehand.
He said that most of the complaints pertained to roads, drinking water, electricity, health services and national highways. It was observed that officers serving in some departments in Anni and Nirmand subdivisions of the outer Seraj area, which have their headquarters in Rampur, did not attend the meeting. Thakur directed the officers to ensure their attendance in future meetings.
The MLA made it clear that addressing issues should not be limited only to committee meetings and rather matters raised by non-government members from time to time must also be resolved regularly. He described the meeting as extremely important and beneficial, as most of the agenda items were resolved. Emphasis was laid on organising these meetings regularly in the future.
He said that adequate funds had been made available for post-disaster and mitigation works. He issued directions for ensuring swift execution of all projects before the monsoon season. “The work is being carried out on a priority basis, especially at vulnerable sites that had witnessed floods or land subsidence in previous years,” the meeting was informed.
Thakur said that the mitigation work along the banks of the Beas, particularly in the Kullu-Manali region, was progressing rapidly and efforts were being made to complete most of the work before May and June. A concrete strategy regarding waste management was also discussed. “In future, every area will have to make its own arrangements for waste disposal. Special emphasis will be placed on the segregation of dry and wet waste. The construction of a material recovery facility site at Kasol is underway and the establishment of new material recovery sites was discussed,” he added.
Manali MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur, Banjar MLA Surender Shourie, Deputy Commissioner Anurag Chander Sharma, Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, along with other government and non-government members of the committee attended the meeting.
