Mehar Chand Mahajan DAV College, Kangra, celebrated its golden jubilee along with its annual prize distribution function with enthusiasm on campus. The highlight of the occasion was the release of a commemorative volume titled ‘Golden Footprints: 50 Years of MCM DAV College Kangra.’
Authored by Prof Sanjeev Suri, the book chronicles the institution’s five-decade journey, from its modest beginnings in the hills of Kangra to its emergence as a prominent centre of higher education. It documents the founding vision of the college and the pioneering contribution of its first Principal, RC Jeewan, whose emphasis on discipline, accessibility and academic integrity laid a strong foundation for the institution. The volume also traces the college’s academic growth, infrastructural expansion and consistent university results over the years.
The book was formally released by Raghubir Singh Bali, Chairman, Tourism Development, Himachal Pradesh, who attended the function as the chief guest.
In his address, he described the publication as an important record of institutional history that preserved the vision, struggles and achievements of the college across five decades. He said that such documentation strengthens institutions by connecting present generations with their foundational values.
Among the guests of honour were Mahavir Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University; Amarjit K Sharma, director, Higher Education; and Ajay Verma, vice-chairman of Himachal Road Transport Corporation. They commended the college for maintaining high academic standards and expanding educational opportunities in the region.
Principal Dr Baljeet Singh Patial described the golden jubilee as a milestone of collective effort and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development.
Meritorious students were honoured for outstanding achievements in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. On the occasion, the chief guest also announced financial assistance for the establishment of a Skill Lab to support the college’s infrastructure development.
