Former Congress minister and president of the ex-servicemen association of the state, Vijai Singh Mankotia today alleged that both the Congress and the BJP had discriminated against the Kangra region. Addressing a press conference here, Mankotia alleged that every project in Kangra district had been lingering due political bickering between the two key political parties.

He alleged that the district got Central University Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) project in the year 2010. It has been 10 years since the university was established but it still does not have a permanent campus. Bickering among the Congress and BJP leaders has delayed the project. It was ironic that even the foundation stone of the project was yet to be laid.

He alleged that residents of Kangra had been reduced to second category citizens of the state. Kangra district has always faced discrimination from successive governments in the state and it was still continuing. The region has been discriminated despite the fact that it had produced martyrs for the country.

Mankotia also said that the present government should tell the people of Kangra as to why the second capital status was not being accorded to Dharamsala. If the previous Congress government had issued a notification to declare Dharamsala as second capital of the state, why the present government was dithering over implementing the notification, he said. He further alleged that Kangra district had highest level of unemployment in the state and the government was not doing anything. — TNS
