The Panchayati Raj Department has proposed the creation of 12 new gram panchayats by carving them out of existing panchayats across various development blocks in Kangra district. The reorganisation has been initiated under the provisions of the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, with the aim of improving administrative efficiency in areas with large populations and extensive geographical spread.

To ensure transparency in the process, the government has invited suggestions and objections from residents of the affected areas. Any villager or Gram Sabha member concerned who has an objection to the proposed bifurcation or boundaries of the new panchayats may submit representations to the Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, within five days from the date of issuance of the notification.

According to the notification issued on February 13, four new gram panchayats — Deyothi, Gangath-2, Rajgeer and Dhantol — have been proposed in the Indora development block. In the Fatehpur block, Chhabbar and Haronta-2 have been proposed, while Hatwas Jikla is to be created in the Nagrota Bagwan block. Other proposed panchayats include Halerkhurd in Kangra block, Purani Palam in Palampur block, Sujanta in Nurpur block and Barwada and Surajpur in Dehra block.

As per official information, the Kangra DC will examine all suggestions and objections before forwarding his final recommendations to the government for a final decision. Panchayat secretaries have been directed to give wide publicity to the proposal across the district.
