Kargil hero accorded rousing welcome at Jhandutta village
People and relatives throng PVC awardee Capt Sanjay Kumar’s home in Hamirpur
Capt Sanjay Kumar (retd), hero of the Kargil war and recipient of Param Vir Chakra, was accorded a rousing welcome on his arrival at his native village Kalol in the Jhandutta Assembly constituency of Bilaspur district on Sunday. Captain Sanjay had served the JAK Regiment of the Indian Army for more than three decades.
Members of the ex-servicemen organisation also reached Capt Sanjay’s home to welcome him on his arrival. Capt Sanjay said that there was no better service than protecting the sovereignty and security of the country. He added that the scenes of the Kargil war were still alive in his memory and he was proud of being part of the victory.
People from surrounding areas and his relatives thronged his home while his family organised a welcome function to honour the gallant officer and his wife. Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani extended best wishes to Capt Sanjay Kumar on his superannuation. He added that such war heroes were an inspiration for the coming generations.
Capt Jagdish Verma (retd), Chairman of the United Front of Ex-Servicemen (JCOs & OR), Himachal Pradesh, in a statement issued here, said that Capt Sanjay was decorated with the Param Vir Chakra, the highest and most prestigious decoration of the Indian Army.
He said that the highest gallantry award was given to those who perform a daring act in the face of the
enemy during war. “This is a great honour to the small hill state of Himachal Pradesh that of the 21 recipients of the Param Vir Chakra in India, four were from Himachal Pradesh. Capt Sanjay was one of them who got it when alive whereas most of the awardees got it posthumously. He was granted the Honorary Commissioned Officer rank on this Republic Day by senior defence officers for his extra ordinary act of bravery.
