Residents of the Kotli area are opposing shifting of the HP Power Corporation (HPPC) office from Kotli to Jogindernagar in Mandi district.

In a show of strong opposition, they held a rally in the local market yesterday, protesting the proposed relocation of the HPPC office from Kotli to Jogindernagar. The protesters, including local leaders, social workers and residents, raised their voices in favour of retaining the office in Kotli, citing the project’’s proximity to the area and the inconvenience the shift would cause.

Following the rally, the participants submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu through the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Kotli, demanding that the office remain in Kotli. The memorandum highlighted that the HPPC office in Kotli had been established nearly 10 years ago to oversee the Thana Paloun Power Project, located just 7-8 kilometers from Kotli.

However, the government is now considering relocating the office to Jogindernagar, which is approximately 25 km away from the project site. The protesters argue that the move is illogical and would cause unnecessary inconvenience, especially considering the office’s strategic location in Kotli.

The memorandum urges the government to reconsider the decision and retain the HPPC office in Kotli.
