To have a dedicated surveillance system, the Kullu Municipal Council (MC) will install 24 CCTV cameras in Dhalpur ward, which houses the district headquarters. Tarun Vimal, councillor of Dhalpur ward, said it would be the first ward in Himachal Pradesh to have a dedicated surveillance system to be set up at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.
Tarun said that a team of vendors of the HP State Electronics Development Corporation started marking locations today. He added that a dedicated office would be set up at the MC building at Dhalpur Chowk and a connection would also be provided to the control room of the SP office. He favoured a holistic CCTV camera surveillance system for all wards.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inclusion of Kullu under the AMRUT yojana as a heritage town due to which many development works were being carried out. He said that the work on a subway at Dhalpur had been completed, the construction of an automated boom barrier and an underground parking near Monal Café was underway and Rs 1.5 crore would be spent on the beautification of the Mall Road.
The councillor said that Rs 8 lakh would be spent on the installation of a lighting system at the Rath ground and the sprinkler system would be restored to improve the condition of the ground.
He added that the work on the remaining fencing of the ground would be accomplished soon so that the elderly and women could stroll around safely.
Interlocking tiles had been laid in all pathways in the ward and adequate streetlights had been installed, he said.
