KULLU, JANUARY 17

Kullu District Red Cross Society (DRCS) has secured the first place. The Governor and president, HP Red Cross, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar honoured Kullu DRCS by providing a citation to Kullu Deputy Commissioner and president DRCS Ashutosh Garg during the annual meeting of Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society held at Raj Bhavan, Shimla, on January 11.

Secretary Kullu District Red Cross Society secretary VK Moudgil said that the activities of all the District Red Cross Societies of the state under Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society, Shimla, were reviewed at the state level in which Kullu Red Cross Society secured the maximum marks in all the activities and secured first place.

The secretary said that Kullu DRCS has spent Rs 4.84 crore and benefitted 16,550 beneficiaries under various schemes run by the society in the past five years. He added that these schemes include providing financial assistance to the people affected by natural calamities, organizing health check-up camps for the elderly and women and operating day care centres for senior citizens and the disabled.

Moudgil said that District Red Cross Society carries out surveys through the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and identification of persons with disabilities and facilitate awareness camps for prevention of disability, physiotherapy, speech therapy, assessment of hearing ability to the needy and obtaining disability identity card. He said that facilities were being provided for training and loan for self-employment to the differently abled.

The secretary said that apart from this, during Covid-19, the DRCS was providing free ambulance service to the needy, financial assistance for setting up Covid Care Centres, setting up border monitoring system and providing oximeters and masks. He said, “Red Cross mela and raffle draw are also organized to generate income. Efforts are also being made by the society to add new members.”
