Landslide blocks Aut-Sainj road

A massive landslide triggered by rain blocked the Aut-Sainj road near Talada villge in Sainj valley on Friday morning. The road connects the valley with the district headquarters.

A stretch of nearly 100 metres of the road was covered with debris.

A large number of vehicles, including trucks carrying fruits and vegetables, remained stranded on both sides of the road after the landslide. Farmers said their fruits and vegetables could not be transported due to poor condition of the road and they had incurred huge losses. Two marriage parties had to cross the road on foot.

Sources said there were reports of damage caused to cash crops and agricultural land in various parts of the district due to heavy rain in the past couple of days.

Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan said the departments concerned had been advised to normalise the situation in the areas hit by flash flood and relief would be provided to the affected people after analysing the situation and reports from various departments.
