A massive landslide near Klath village on the Kullu-Manali national highway on Monday evening brought traffic to a standstill for hours. Commuters on way to Kullu and Manali remained stranded for hours.

Earlier, a landslide was reported at 6 pm. The district administration immediately pressed the machinery into service and cleared the debris for a smooth traffic movement. However, after some time, another massive landslide blocked the road completely.

Earlier in the morning, a landslide was reported near Rangri on the highway. The commuters faced a lot of inconvenience as a tree, along with some boulders, fell on the road.

The road was partially restored to traffic in the afternoon. Both ways traffic was cleared in the evening. Long route buses were delayed by several hours.

Deputy Commissioner, Kullu, Yunus Khan said “The Kullu-Manali national highway was cleared around 9 pm. Stranded people were allowed to cross both sides. However, no traffic movement on this route will be allowed in night hours to avoid any untoward incident in the landslide-prone area.”
